The Zimmerman Clan

Last Update:  January 3, 2017

My name is Shanna Marie Flaherty-Pierce and I am a ZIMMERMAN descendant. My mother was Dorothy Jean (Zimmerman) Flaherty. I was born in Lusk, Niobrara County, Wyoming. I was delivered by the same doctor that had delivered my mother and her siblings. My father moved the family to Oklahoma, which was my father's home state, in 1973 and I have been here ever since.  As a child, many of my cousins and I spent a lot of time at our grandmother Doris Evelyn (Peterson) Zimmerman's house and would often get into trouble when we would get into the bags of feathers she had in the garage and toss them at each other. Grandmother would always make us pick every last feather up and put them back into the bags. Oh the memories......

I am sure that I have met many of my ZIMMERMAN relatives during my time in Lusk ; however, being a small child at the time, I don't remember.

My ZIMMERMAN line came to America from Germany and settled in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. I have my ancestry traced back to my Fourth-Great-Grandparents Jacob and Elizabeth Zimmerman. I have no dates of birth or death for Jacob and do not know if he was the ancestor that came over from Germany.

My Third Great Grandfather Samuel Zimmerman was born in 1812 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.  There is currently a discrepancy as to the name of William Henry Zimerman's father.  Some records show Henry and others show Samuel. Another Zimmerman cousin and I are both currently researching this.

In March of 1885 Samuel's son, my Second Great Grandfather William Henry Zimmerman moved his family from Pennsylvania to Nebraska after hearing that homestead land was available.   He was one of the original settlers in the Hat Creek valley North of Harrison Nebraska.  William Henry Zimmerman was born on August 12, 1848 in Pennsylvania and died October 3, 1925 in Sioux County, Nebraska and is buried at Bodrac Cemetery, Sioux County, Nebraska.

My Great Grandfather Irven Samuel Zimmerman was born January 11, 1878 at Hopewell, Bedford County, Pennsylvania and died May 22, 1939 at Lusk, Niobrara County, Wyoming.  Irven and his family settled in Sioux County, Nebraska where they lived on the homestead that was passed down to him by his father William Henry.  This homestead is still to this day in the ZIMMERMAN family and my cousin Keith Zimmerman and his wife live there.

My Grandfather Lawrence Emory Zimmerman was born on February 13, 1911 at Harrison, Sioux County, Nebraska and died on December 3, 1978 at Douglas, Converse County, Wyoming.  I will always cherish the fond memories I have of times I spent with my Grandfather.  He use to always give us kids a brand new dollar bill and he would tell us that he 'made it'.  I use to think that my grandfather ACTUALLY made the dollar bill.  It wasn't till I was older that I realized what he meant.  My mother would tell me that my Grandfather's complexion was so dark and his dark hair was so curly that he was often mistaken for an African American.
